I am trying to figure out how to allow a person viewing a captivate module within my LMS to stop at any point within the recording and then the next time they come back to pick right back up where they had left off. The question is, what settings need to set in Captivate 3? Once I know that I'll deal with my LMS provider.

Hello,

I just joined the forum looking for the same thing. We are using SumTotal LMS 7.5. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

We are using SumTotal 7.2, and because of a deadlines, decided to go with a work-around until we can figure out how to get Captivate and SumTotal communicating correctly. A LOT of time has gone into tweeking the publish settings to enable features like bookmarking, but without success. Thinking about duct tape next. jk.

We've eliminated quizing for now and broke the captivate course into smaller learning chunks or "chapters". The chapters are the faux bookmarks (it would be nice to bookmark to the exact page). We then created a simple web page with a table of contents and hyperlinked the chapters. The last page of the last chapter will have a button that sends a completion to SumTotal.

Nice work around Sarah. I was going to do the same thing but our modules just aren't large enough to really make sense to do that. I have written my LMS PhD guru in hopes that he'll have all the answers I (we) need! (Oh we're using TeraLearn for our LMS provider)

Ok, I have pretty much been told Captivate does not have the capicity to provide bookmarks for people to stop and then return to where they left off. There are a couple of work arounds that were suggested like using a Captivate Menu to access different areas of each module. However, someone would need to remember where they left off on their own. Let's hope that someone in the product development group sees the value in adding this to their next release.

My name is Bill "Red Dog" Martin and I am the Interactive Media Entrepreneur for P&G. We are running SABA 5.3.1.2 and I cannot get Captivate to bookmark. Additionally if you use the exit button to close the program the SABA launch window will not cloes leaving a blank frame with the words "Choose Navigation". I solved the exit button Chooes Navigation problem by eliminating the exit button from the skin but have yet to resolve the bookmarking issue. Adobe tells me that Captivate does not have that capability but I find that odd because you can choose to turn it off under advanced LMS settings Never to send resume data? If anyone has success I would be very grateful! RD

So here is what I have learned about Captivate bookmarking and our LMS. I have tried several "fixes" and found which combo works for our situation. I will share briefly my encounters and final solution. Hopefully one of these will work for you.
First I had a whitepaper which had us change a few variables within the SCORM.htm (located in template folder of adobe/Captivate3/templates/publishing to be more precise) I used this originally and for some reason I was told to add a "clickbox" which was "scored" = totaling 0 to make the quiz score properly. Later I had this issue of Cp file showing "complete" pop-up box only after a few slides had passed...so, I found another fix...it was from the Adobe discussion board...actually a guy there sent me something that hasn't been yet posted. It was a modified template file to replace the SCORM.htm file. This solved the pop-up issue, but then wasn't bookmarking. Today...I changed things up, I was about to toss the Cp program then decided to go back to my original fix. 3 properties changed in the original SCORM.htm file...remove the "clickbox" trigger and voila! I had scoring, bookmarking and incomplete or complete all marking properly. I tested the quiz as learner to test all 3 possibilities (exit before completion, failed quiz, and passed quiz) and found it to work. I will repost if I encounter any other issues or fixes to possible failure of present...seemingly functioning nicely Cp3 quiz on LMS (we use Sumtotal). I have a very short pdf with the properties in SCORM.htm that worked if you would like it, just ask.

Janelle, I'd REALLY like a copy of the PDF you've created.

I've just started experimenting with Captivate sending SCORM to the Cornerstone LMS, and have found it buggy.

My email is todd.haynes AT embarq.com.

Thank you in advance!

I am not the author of the following info and attachments, however I am please to pass it on because it worked for me:

"The files I have are to help with the SumTotal Integration. The changes made in these files are to store the communication data until the browser is closed or the “exit” button is clicked in the Captivate toolbar. This should help prevent the learner from seeing the “you are completed” message before answering all of the questions. Of course, you might have a timeout issue if you have generated long content.

There are several things that were modified with these "templates" but the basic concept is that SumTotal displays a message to learners when it receives a completed-like status AND the data is commited to the database. Captivate and Presenter send data on *every* page, in case there is a power-outage or the learner exits (clicks the "X" button in the browser) prematurely... By modifying the template - you replace a file once and then every time you publish from Captivate - it uses the updated template, so you don't have to make any changes each time you publish.

I haven’t really put together a “document” that explains how to do this, but have provided an updated HTML Template file and then some basic instructions on how to use the file. I hope the files help and that they work as expected.

Attached, please find two files (NOTE: The files have been renamed with an extension of “PIZ” so they could be passed through e-mail filters – please rename back to “ZIP”, before extracting):
- SCORM_Captivate3.zip – a modified “template” file of the SCORM.htm file for Captivate 3
- SCORM_Presenter6.zip – a modified “template” file of the SCORM.htm file for Presenter 6.x

To use these files:
- Close all versions of the appropriate application (e.g. Captivate 3 and Presenter 6)
- Make a backup of the file of the same name (e.g. “SCORM.htm”) where the appropriate application is installed
1. Captivate 3: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Templates\Publish
2. Presenter 6: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Presenter 6\SCORM
- Extract the file in the appropriate .zip to the same location, above
- Open your application and any source file
- Ensure you have interactivity enabled in your file
- Set the Quiz Manager to report to a SCORM (1.2) LMS
- Send the score as “Percent” in the Quiz Manager
- Publish your file
- Upload the resulting files to SumTotal
- That’s it
"
